Jan 29, 2026: From Scott Helmka & Steve Muenzer: Crew Chief responsibilities continues to be an issue from time to time. One of the many reasons that we need to be communicating ahead of all assignments is that if myself or Steve have put in a wrong game time for example this can be easily taken care once the error is realized well ahead of your game when you contact the AD. Moving forward next year Steve and I will have a dedicated list of crew chiefs that we trust and know are doing there responsibilities without fail.
Jan 14, 2026: From Scott Helmka & Steve Muenzer: Steve and I have an update to our requirements when it comes to communication as crew chiefs and the whole group in general.
- If you are the crew chief confirm all assignments with your partners and schools at least 48 hours prior. When you confirm with schools give SPECIFIC details on what night you will be there, the start time, what level or levels you are working that evening and who your partners are. The more information the better for all parties involved.
- In addition to the above protocol if you are not the crew chief and you do not hear from your CC it is your responsibility to be pro active and confirm assignments 24 hours prior and let Steve and I know so that we can all follow up depending on whose assignment it was.
This is non negotiable. There can never be a no call no show barring an unfortunate emergency obviously.
MHSAA Finals Officials – Congratulations!
Sam Hill – 2025
Chris Vergison – 2025
Disclaimer: The GCCOA is not taking a position of the shot clock. The video and the adoption image is educating our basketball members of the shot clock conversation gaining momentum in Michigan.
Executive Director Dan Young of BCAM – Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan speaks about the shot clock coming to Michigan. He says 75% of their members want the shot clock. They will be submitting a proposal to the MHSAA. Listen to his reasoning and next steps.
